Samar State University, after successfully hosting two consecutive conferences on poverty alleviation and sustainable development, is grateful to the HEIs in the region for their pledge of support for this year’s POVCON, namely:

Why poverty conference?

The university believes that poverty reduction is a call to everyone. All efforts in the academe both in the basic and higher education should either contribute directly or indirectly to poverty reduction where it operates and hopefully benefits the country.

Who may participate?

A poverty enthusiast willing to study/contribute to poverty reduction in the country coming from the Local Government Units, Academe (Basic Educ. Teachers & Higher Educ. Personnel), Students (JHS, SHS, college, graduate, & post graduate) and members of POs, NGOs, CSOs.

The conference is open to anyone interested to gain knowledge from experts on the related topic. And those willing to submit abstract are enjoined.

Where to submit?

All papers, abstracts, posters, draft (in A4 size) and short films/ audio-video presentation synopsis should be e-mailed to povcon@ssu.edu.ph on or before the June 15, 2019 (Extended until August 15, 2019) for pre-screening.

Paper, oral, and short film/audio-video presentation

For research presentation either oral or poster:

  • Submit abstract in 300 words or less.
  • Those accepted may opt to join oral competition with a separate screening review.

For short film/audio video documentaries competition:

  • Presentation must be based o a research project.
  • Submit synopsis in 300 words or less.
  • Film showing is 5-15 minutes.

Important dates to remember

  • Abstracts/short film synopsis submission Deadline: (31st July 2019) EXTENDED until August 15, 2019

    Acknowledgment of receipt will be sent within 3 days
    Notification of Acceptance (or some recommendations to authors): (August 9, 2019) moved to 15 to 20th August 2019 (others may be earlier depending on the reviewers’ pace)
    Submission of full paper (competing paper), poster & short film/audio-video documentaries (1-2 min teaser): 4th September 2019
    Final conference registration for all presenters: 4th  September 2019

    Submission of full short film/documentary: 24th  September 2019
    Full paper submission for Publication in the CDRJ or JAR: 20th December 2018

Registration Fees:

  • Academe Participants, LGU & Graduate Students – Php 4,000.00
  • Undergraduate Students – Php 3,000.00

Registration fee covers 4 snacks and 2 lunch, conference kit, certificate, and program/congress proceedings.
Hotel accommodation and local tours are not included but may be arranged upon the request of the participants.
We accept and encourage sponsorship for the students & members of the POs and CSOs registration fee and the conference prizes.
