There are three options in getting to Samar State University at Catbalogan City, Samar, Philippines.

For foreign participants, you have the option to use Manila or Mactan in Cebu as point of entry. Other international airport are available but the two are the most convenient.

Once you are in the Philippines, you can take a flight to Tacloban from Manila or Cebu via Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific and Air Asia. There are at least eight flights per day, book early to catch low fares. From Tacloban Airport you will take a jeepney/taxi/motorcycle to Public Utility Vans Terminals of Grandtours, Duptours, Vanvan in downtown Tacloban or to Tacloban Bus Terminal at Abucay where busses and other vans are stationed. Jeepney ride will cost you PhP 15 regular fare, while taxi and motorcab will be up to PhP 200. Bus Terminal is a little farther so fare is larger. From Tacloban to Catbalogan, it will be a 2 hour travel for PUV and about 3hrs for buses. Fare from Tacloban to Catbalogan ranges from PhP 120 to 130. You will pass by the famous San Juanico Bridgem about 20min from the terminals (off peak hours).

There is also a plane flying Manila-Calbayog and Cebu-Calbayog, thrice a week. From Calbayog Airport, you need to take a motorcab or motorcycle to downtown Calbayog City. To get a lower fare cab, get out of the gates of the Airport and wait for a cab to pass by for downtown. You will just pay PhP 10 instead of PhP 200 if you hire the cabs inside the airport terminal. Alight at Duptours, Vanvan or Grandtours terminal for Catbalogan. Fare is only PhP 100.

A 9-seater plane from Cebu to Catbalogan-Buri Airport via Air Juan has 3 schedules (Monday and Friday) every week. From Cebu, you can also reach Calbayog City via ship.

Catbalogan can also be reach via bus through the Asian Highway(Maharlika Highway) from Manila or Davao(and other Cities) in Mindanao for about 24 hours drive. There are regularl trips from Cebu to Calbayog, via ships and a faster craft SeaCat of the VS Grandtours may be available during the conference month onwards.

In downtown Catbalogan, you can either ride a motorcab or a padyak(Rikshaw) or walk to the hotels/accommodation of your choice. Catbalogan is a small city, everything can be accessed by walking. Fares for padyak is PhP 5 while motorcab is PhP 7.
